R. O Lord, make haste to help us.

PSALMODY
Antiphon: My eyes are turned to you, Lord God;*
in you I take refuge; do not strip me of my life.
Opening – From Psalms 140 and 141
I have said to the Lord, ‘You are my God;*
listen, O Lord, to my supplication.’
O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly;*
hear my voice when I cry to you.
I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the poor*
and render justice to the needy.
Surely, the righteous will give thanks to your name,*
and the upright shall continue in your sight.
Glory to the Father…
Psalm 71
In you, O Lord, have I taken refuge;*
let me never be ashamed.
In your righteousness, deliver me and set me free;*
incline your ear to me and save me.
Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe;*
you are my crag and my stronghold.
Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,*
from the clutches of the evildoer and the oppressor.
For you are my hope, O Lord God,*
my confidence since I was young.
I have been sustained by you ever since I was born;
from my mother’s womb you have been my strength;*
my praise shall be always of you.
I have become a portent to many;*
but you are my refuge and my strength.
Let my mouth be full of your praise*
and your glory all the day long.
Do not cast me off in my old age;*
forsake me not when my strength fails.
For my enemies are talking against me,*
and those who lie in wait for my life take counsel together.
They say, ‘God has forsaken him;
go after him and seize him;*
because there is none who will save.’
O God, be not far from me;*
come quickly to help me, O my God.
Let those who set themselves against me be put to shame
and be disgraced;*
let those who seek to do me evil be covered with scorn and
reproach.
But I shall always wait in patience,*
and shall praise you more and more.
My mouth shall recount your mighty acts
and saving deeds all day long;*
though I cannot know the number of them.
I will begin with the mighty works of the Lord God;*
I will recall your righteousness, yours alone.
O God, you have taught me since I was young,*
and to this day I tell of your wonderful works.
And now that I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not
forsake me,*
till I make known your strength to this generation
and your power to all who are to come.
Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens;*
you have done great things;
who is like you, O God?
You have showed me great troubles and adversities,*
but you will restore my life
and bring me up again from the deep places of the earth.
You strengthen me more and more;*
you enfold and comfort me.
Therefore I will praise you upon the lyre for your
faithfulness, O my God;*
I will sing to you with the harp, O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will sing with joy when I play to you,*
and so will my soul, which you have redeemed.
My tongue will proclaim your righteousness all day long,*
for they are ashamed and disgraced who sought
to do me harm.
Holy God, be our strength and our salvation, that we may never be ashamed to praise you for your mighty acts. We ask this through Jesus Christ.
Conclusion (from Revelation 22)
‘Behold, I am coming soon*
to repay everyone for what he has done.
‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last,*
the beginning and the end.
‘I am the root and offspring of David,*
the bright morning star.’
The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come’;*
let anyone who hears, say, ‘Come’,
Let anyone who is thirsty come;*
let anyone who desires take the water of life without price.
The Lord says, ‘Surely I am coming soon’.*
Amen; come, Lord Jesus!
Glory to the Father…
Antiphon: My eyes are turned to you, Lord God;
in you I take refuge; do not strip me of my life.
READINGS
Isaiah 59: 15b-21
Truth is lacking,
and whoever turns from evil is despoiled.
The Lord saw it, and it displeased him
that there was no justice.
He saw that there was no one,
and was appalled that there was no one to intervene;
so his own arm brought him victory,
and his righteousness upheld him.
He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
and a helmet of salvation on his head;
he put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
and wrapped himself in fury as in a mantle.
According to their deeds, so will he repay;
wrath to his adversaries, requital to his enemies;
to the coastlands he will render requital.
So those in the west shall fear the name of the Lord,
and those in the east, his glory;
for he will come like a pent-up stream
that the wind of the Lord drives on.
And he will come to Zion as Redeemer,
to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the Lord.
And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord: my spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouths of your children, or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord, from now on and for ever.
Philippians 2: 5-11
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
